The chart shows an R-value comparison of Spray Foam versus other types of insulation. "R" means
resistance to heat flow. The higher the R-value, the greater the insulating power. Compare
insulation R-values before you buy.
There are other factors to consider. The amount of insulation you need depends mainly
on the climate you live in. Also, your fuel savings from insulation will depend upon the climate,
the type and size of your house, the amount of insulation already in your house, and
your fuel use patterns and family size. If you buy too much insulation it will cost you
more than what you'll save on fuel.
To get the marked R-value, it is essential that this insulation be installed
properly by certified professionals.

Foam Is Made The installer fabricates the foam according to the manufacturer's
instructions. The application equipment and the foam's chemical components are brought
to the homebuilding site when framing, electrical, and plumbing are complete. A controlled reaction
among a number of mixed chemicals and a blowing agent produces a foam mass.
Using
specially-designed equipment, the installer sprays the mass onto or between wall surfaces. This
mass forms into a hardened cellular plastic material containing a low thermal conductivity gas
which cures to the touch in 30 seconds. The exposed surfaces of the rigid foam resemble a hard,
tan colored shaving cream.
Thermal Advantages
Spray foam insulation boasts high insulation value. It has the best
resistance to heat flow (R-value per square inch) of any readily available insulation. It allows
for more insulation in a smaller space than conventional batt insulations, and performs well in
controlling hot or cold temperatures. The spray foam is good at keeping heat out as well as in, giving
the homeowner a break on both air conditioning and heating bills.
